Cheers to clean water and a healthy environment!
Over this past weekend, Anheuser-Busch employees and their families celebrated World Environment Day by participating in watershed cleanup efforts that took place in 17 cities across the country. The goal: to bring to life the commitment we work towards every day: To Be The Best Beer Company Bringing People Together For a Better World...and better water.
“We have great people, great brands and we're passionate about making a positive impact in our communities and across the globe,” explains Katja Zastrow, VP of Corporate Social Responsibility-Better World at Anheuser-Busch. “This is one of the best moments of the year, as we not only get to make a positive difference in our local communities, but we also get to have a little fun together in the process.”
Water is not only one of the most important ingredients in all of our beers, but also one of the world's most precious resources, which is why we work every day to preserve and protect water for our communities and team up for initiatives like World Environment Day.
This year, we grabbed our work gloves, put on a pair of tried-and-true blue jeans, and worked together as employees, friends and family at events in brewery cities across the country, starting out in our own backyard at the Living Land and Waters in St.Louis, Missouri, where our efforts resulted in 6,100 pounds of trash removed from the grounds bordering the mighty Mississippi River.
In New York City, home of our Commercial Strategy Office, we came together for a riverside cleanup in Hudson River Park. Our employees and their families worked on a number of revitalization and beautification projects, such as planting native flora to help the park become more sustainable, building teaching facilities for students in the Habitat Garden, and installing gardens and signs in the park that educate students on the benefits of composting.
In Washington, DC, the local team volunteered alongside local stakeholders and Groundwork DC, a non-profit watershed partner, to clean up the Anacostia river. After the clean-up, participants enjoyed batting practice in the Nationals batting cages and received briefings about our sustainability initiatives and the intersection of CSR, community organizations, and federal policy.
In addition to those events, we also held cleanup efforts in Illinois, Ohio, California, Texas, Florida, New Hampshire, New Jersey and Virginia and other cities, doing our part for our oceans, rivers and lakes, and putting to work our year-round commitment to brewing beer the better world way for cleaner and greener planet.
