Elk Mountain Farmers Now Elk Heroes

Hop farmers from Anheuser-Busch's Elk Mountain Farm recently made local headlines after a stunning rescue saved several elk from freezing waters in northern Idaho.

According to the Bonners Ferry Herald, after several elk fell through the ice near Elk Mountain Farm on January 5, that property's manager headed to the site to see if he could help the struggling animals. When he arrived with his neighbors, they encountered Elk Mountain employees already out on the ice trying to rope the elk out of the water. Elk Mountain's Don Allenburg, John Solt, and Mick Atkins ended up joining the property manager and neighbors to rope in the elk, who were near drowning by the time they were rescued. Another neighbor joined with towels to dry off and warm up the freezing elk.

After another hour of trying to reinvigorate up the elk - and one of them falling back through the ice, needing a second extrication - the two rescued elk started to get back on their feet.
