June 9, 2005

The “King Of Beers” Continues its Role as a Leading Sports Ambassador in China

SHANGHAI, June 9th, 2005 - Anheuser-Busch today announced its title sponsorship of Budweiser Cup 2005, a four-match soccer tournament scheduled to take place in Shanghai Stadium on July 27, 28 and 30. As part of Budweiser’s “True Sports, Unlimited Passion” program, the world-class sporting event will showcase top local players from Shanghai and Spain to soccer fans across China.

Members of the world-famous Spanish League - including FC Sevilla, Villareal and Real Zaragoza - will compete along with all-star players from Shanghai United for the Budweiser Cup championship. While nearly 80,000 fans will pack Shanghai Stadium for the matches, many more are expected to tune in on STV Sports Channel.

“As the title sponsor of Budweiser Cup 2005, Budweiser continues its leadership as a foremost sports ambassador in China,” says Y.R. Cheng, chairman, Budweiser Wuhan Brewing Company. “Adult beer drinkers around the world really enjoy soccer, and Budweiser is proud to be a part of creating such an exciting event. We are thrilled to help provide a variety of great sports entertainment across the country, including here in Shanghai.”

The Spanish League, named “La Liga,” is one of the top leagues in the world and includes another fan favorite, Real Madrid. Several league all-stars are scheduled to participate in Budweiser Cup including Diego Forlan (Villarreal), Juan Roman Riquelme (Villarreal), Julio Baptista (FC Sevilla) and Savio (Real Zaragoza).

The Shanghai United team will be comprised of some of China’s top professional soccer players, voted to the squad by local fans. This year’s event marks the first time that fans will have the opportunity to directly participate in the selection of the team members for the Shanghai squad. Beginning June 10, fans can begin to cast their votes and track the leading vote-getters as they contend for a spot on the team.

The largest Budweiser-sponsored event in China this year, Budweiser Cup also falls on the heels of the Budweiser Manchester United Beijing Cup, featuring world-famous Manchester United and Beijing Hyundai, on July 26 at Worker’s Stadium.

To honor local soccer fans, Budweiser will provide an added bonus to Shanghai soccer fans on July 26 as the Budweiser Manchester United Beijing Cup will be televised live via the big screen at Shanghai Xintiandi.

Adult beer drinkers and soccer fans at Xintiandi will have the opportunity to watch the Manchester United-Beijing Hyundai match in the Budweiser beer garden, enjoy mouth-watering barbecue, participate in interactive fan activities and follow the appearance of local soccer stars from Shanghai United.

A world leader in sports marketing for decades, Budweiser has been a proud sponsor of a variety of popular sports and a champion for competitive spirit and cross-cultural sportsmanship. Budweiser serves as the official beer sponsor of The F.A. Premier League, Manchester United and the 2006 FIFA World Cup™.
