Donation is Part of Brewer’s Focus on Improving Educational Opportunities in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (June 4, 2009) – The Anheuser-Busch Foundation, the charitable arm of Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc, is announcing today a donation of $150,000 to the Teach For America Corps-St. Louis.  Since the program came to St. Louis, Anheuser-Busch has supported Teach For America, a national corps of recent college graduates who are committed to teaching in low-income communities to foster educational equality and excellence.

“We are pleased to be able to continue to support Teach For America and its mission to expand educational opportunities for students whose current options may be limited,” said Laura Reeves, senior director of the foundation and corporate giving for Anheuser-Busch.  “Over the past seven years, the growth of the St. Louis program and the quality of teachers it has been able to attract has been phenomenal to watch.  Anheuser-Busch is thrilled to be a part of these efforts and to know we are contributing to the success of students here in our community.”

The Teach for America corps members, who were selected from a pool of more than 35,000 applicants from across the country, will be teaching in classrooms in the St. Louis Public School District, the Normandy and Wellston public school districts, and charter schools during the 2009-2010 school year.

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates who commit to teach for at least two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in expanding educational opportunity. This year, 6,200 corps members are teaching in over 1,600 schools in 29 regions across the country while more than 14,000 Teach For America alumni continue working from inside and outside the field of education for the fundamental changes necessary to ensure educational excellence and equity.
