Donation Benefits Programs for 1 Million Local Residents
ST. LOUIS (Aug. 26, 2009) – Continuing its role as one of United Way of Greater St. Louis’ top corporate sponsors, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation announced today a $2 million gift to the 2009 United Way annual campaign.
The United Way of Greater St. Louis serves people in 16 Missouri and Illinois counties, and donations help United Way reach nearly 200 health and human service agencies each year. United Way agencies strengthen families, provide job counseling and training, offer affordable childcare, help the elderly, reduce and prevent health problems, help people overcome disabilities, build safer communities, provide disaster relief, prevent violence and more.
“For more than 80 years, the St. Louis United Way has brought people together, and for more than 100 years, thousands of people at Anheuser-Busch have reached out to groups in need,” said Dave Peacock, president, Anheuser-Busch. “We’re pleased to continue this commitment to help our St. Louis friends and neighbors.”
At tonight’s St. Louis Cardinals baseball game, Dave Peacock and two Anheuser-Busch employees will present the $2 million check to United Way Campaign Chairman Hugh Grant. Just prior to the presentation, the world-famous Budweiser Clydesdales will circle the field to signal the start of the celebration for this gift.
“More than 2,000 local companies support our United Way,” said Grant. “Anheuser-Busch and its employees have been tried and true partners over the years. During times like these, it is great to know that we can count on the people and companies that make St. Louis a leader in overall United Way giving across the country.”
In addition to its $2 million gift, Anheuser-Busch will formally begin its internal employee giving campaign Sept. 9. Activities to generate awareness and excitement for the program include a kick-off breakfast, employee BBQ and ongoing posters, videos and e-mail updates.
